My favorite artist

My favorite artist is Spencer Sanders. To be clear: I’m a fan, nothing more. I’m not affiliated with him in any way, and nobody asked me to write this. I just listen to him more than anyone else, and I wanted a place on my own site to say so.

How I found him

I met him through Instagram. I don’t remember the exact post, but I remember hearing the music and staying.

Last.fm says I’ve played him over 1,100 times (as of October 2026). If you scroll down the home page of this site, the Listening section shows what I’m playing right now, and sometimes that’s one of his songs.

Reaper

My favorite song of his is “Reaper”.

It’s folk, with fiddle and drums, and it sounds haunted and hopeful at the same time. That’s the mood I keep coming back to. If you only listen to one, make it this one.

Why it sticks

I relate to all of his songs. I’m not going to pretend I can explain why better than the songs do, but they say things I’ve felt and never found words for. Some artists you admire from a distance. With him it feels closer than that, like someone already wrote down what you were trying to say.

Where to start

A few others worth your time. First, Golden Age:

Then Iced Moonshine and Rust. And if you want an album to sit with, Almanac Unabridged:
