A little about me

Two people sitting together on the sand, facing the sea.

I’m Adriel O’Connel, a Brazilian guy with ADHD and an interest in programming. Music is a big part of my life.

I can’t really explain what music means to me, but during a difficult time in my life, it helped me keep going. When the app I used stopped working, I was desperate to find another one. A GitHub issue led me to Metrolist, an open-source music app that I now contribute to.

I started trying to learn programming in 2022. My boyfriend would sometimes help me in his free time, and I worked on a few experiments. These days, I know Metrolist’s codebase well and feel comfortable working with it.

Mo welcomed my contributions. Over time, through him and the community, I met people who appreciate what I do and make me feel seen. That means a lot to me.

ADHD makes coding hard for me. Sometimes I stop in the middle of work or leave projects unfinished, and I don’t ship as often as I’d like. My motivation goes up and down, and burnout makes it harder, but I’ve kept contributing to Metrolist.

I’m especially happy to be contributing to the upcoming Kotlin Multiplatform port with the entire developer team. I get to learn while helping bring Metrolist to more devices, and I like working with the team.

I have my flaws, but I care about people and mean well. I’m still figuring things out and just want to live my own life.
